I hit the road with Shig and Tk to sample this rare combination of two Southern California favorites. We hit four spots along the way, in Upland, La Habra, Orange, and Cerritos. This audio slideshow is my report back.
This is the first part of a mix I made recently for a Mix CD club. The theme that the group chose was politcal songs and decades. The mix I made kind of changes thematically. This first part starts with a couple of songs about Reagan and the "Bush Boys." This transitions to a London segment. Next part will contain some social commentary, especially about homelessness. It was also contain an anti-war section. Finally, in Part 3, you will hear some songs about revolution and personal change. I hope you like it.
This is a mix of Mexican/lowrider oldies put together by guest podcaster Grandpa Shig. I am sorry to have not made my own mix lately, so this will have to tide all you listeners over until I release my next masterwork.
This is the first of an ongoing series featuring my favorites from the Studio One series put out by Soul Jazz Records of London. There's so much great stuff, it's hard to choose. So think of this as a start.
I am getting overwhelmed with school work, but I want to keep putting these shows up, so I am resorting to time-saving methods. Fortunately, the new Garage Band is a great one. It allows me to make the enhanced AAC files in much less time, since I can just drag and drop from the media viewer intstead of using the template to code it in XML. Also, for this show I have used the party shuffle feature in my iTunes to produce a random selection of songs. I chucked a few and changed the order, but other than that, I kept it as is and that's what you have. Sometimes the randomness of the shuffle feature can produce beautiful example of synchronicity. I am not sure that's what we have here, so I will have to make more of an effort to save those examples that really work when they do come up. For now, this is what you have.
This is a simple but enhanced podcast. It features a long track from the early Steve Reich experiments called Piano Phase. I start out with a tune by Gabor Szabo off a recent Impulse records compilation, and in the middle is a song from a band that is playing several gigs in Los Angeles this month named Vox Vermillion. The back announce music is by Kelpe, a Brit electronic producer.
This show features a guest spot by Puto Bong Bong. We play some of your favorite indie rock and give you some of our commentary too!
This is a shoegazy, electronic type of show. It's also my first enhanced podcast. Now that I have figured out how to do some basic commands in Terminal and how to format the commands in the xml file, etc., I will try to keep making all future podcasts enhanced for your extra listening pleasure. Let me know what you think.
In honor of Howard Stern's last free radio broadcast, we give you this example of what happens when you put a microphone in the proximity of two obnoxious young men. Join me as we welcome our first guest, Grandpa Shig, into the studio to share some of his favorite oldies and for some offensive discussion.
This is a short Podcast. Just two songs. One is "The Old Lady and the Devil" by Bill and Belle Reed taken from the Harry Smith Anthology of American Folk Music. The other is the first movement of the Concierto de Arunjuez for Guitar named I. Allegro con spirito. It was recorded by my boy Rich at the music school in New York where he works. The artist is Joaquin Rodrigo.
This was the second podcast I made. I orginally did this in July of 2005, but it got taken off the server, so here it is again. I know I can do better now, but I thought this came out pretty well.
